SEPTEMBER 11TH, 2001

For all the lives lost on this tragic date 8 years ago, our hearts go out to the families & friends affected by 9/11 who lost their beloved ones caused by a cruel unimaginable act of cowardness; or by putting their lives on the line just so others can go home to their families safe & sound.

Here's a montage from Glenn Becks. . . . Listen in:

CLick to listen to "Glenn Becks' Montage"

The Brooklyn hero murdered his live concert at the Garden & I'm not just sayin just because!

Jay-Z rapped every lyric with a punch & delivered each song like he was a 10 man show ! He played hits after hits. Hits that the audience & viewers at home I'm sure weren't expecting him to do!!

SNEAK PEAK AT OPRAH'S INTERVIEW WITH JAY-Z

Oprah's camp posted a snippet of what to expect in the October issue of The O Magazine where she went to visit Marcy Projects with Jay-Z:

At 13 he was selling crack. By 30 he was a hip-hop legend-having gone, in his words, "from grams to Grammys." Now Jay-Z charts his escape from the hard-knock life, describes the reunion that healed the wounds of his childhood- and even reveals the standing Sunday date he has with what's her name.

The complete interview will be available in the October 2009 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, on newsstands September 15th. Get a first look here.

Oprah: So tell me how you got into the drug dealing.

Jay-Z: It was natural.…

Oprah: Because drug dealers were your role models. There wasn’t a teacher or a lawyer or a nurse or a doctor or an accountant in the neighborhood?

Jay-Z: Well, we were living in Marcy by then, so, no. And if anyone did become something like that, they moved out. They never came back to share the wisdom of how they made it. If anyone made it, you never knew it. That’s why I’ve always said that if I became successful, I’d come back here, grab somebody, and show him how it can be done.

Oprah: So by the time you were 13, this was a way of life. Did the lifestyle frighten you?

Jay-Z: No. It was normal. And at some point, you become addicted to the feeling. The uncertainty and adrenaline and danger of that lifestyle.

Oprah: This is where we differ. This is where we differ. Because I’d be very scared! Weren’t you shot at three times—within six feet—and you lived to talk about it?

Jay-Z: That was divine intervention. Divine intervention, and nobody knowing how to shoot.

Oprah: What happened in each situation?

Jay-Z: It was one situation, three shots.

Oprah: So he was a bad shot.

Jay-Z: Well, no one really practices shooting a TEC-9 machine gun, right? And when you’re a kid, with little bony arms—no wonder nobody could aim.

Oprah: Many of the little boys who grew up in the Marcy projects are either in jail or dead. Why do you think you got to grow up and buy your mom a house?

Jay-Z: There’s the gift, there’s the spirit, and there’s the work—all three have to come together. If one of those things is off, it can stop you from becoming who you were meant to be.

Oprah: When I met you a few years ago, we discussed our disagreement over the use of the N word and misogynist lyrics in rap music. Do you believe that using the N word is necessary?

Jay-Z: Nothing is necessary. It’s just become part of the way we communicate. My generation hasn’t had the same experience with that word that generations of people before us had. We weren’t so close to the pain. So in our way, we disarmed the word. We took the fire pin out of the grenade.

Jay talking about his wedding when you read the rest…

Oprah: Do you and Beyoncé have a pact that you just won’t talk about each other?

Jay-Z: Yeah. When you’re a public person, you have to keep some things to yourself, or else people will just—

Oprah: Eat it up. I know. But can I ask how in the world you kept your wedding a secret?

Jay-Z: Late planning!

Oprah: How many people knew?

Jay-Z: Very few. The sad part is that we offended some. But people who love you understand. Because at the end of the day, it’s your day.

Oprah: So here we are, talking on a Sunday afternoon. If you weren’t sitting here with me, what would you be doing?

Jay-Z: I’m gonna get killed for this, but I’ll tell you anyway. There’s a great pizza spot we go to every Sunday. It’s our tradition. It’s a small place in Brooklyn, you can bring your own wine, and there are candles there. It’s a nice date.

A tech-9 in the hood. What else is new.

JAYZ TALKS FAT BOY JIM JONES & 2 OF THE GREATEST TEAMING UP

The whole Jay-Z vs. Jim Jones beef has boiled over but there's a possibility of it reigniting if the Capo sees this!

In the recent issue of XXL Magazine, Jay-Z gave us some insight of what he thinks about the whole Jim Jones drama & winds up taking shots at the credibility:

XXL: Speaking of Jim Jones, he and cats like The Game stay throwing shots at you, referring to you as old and washed-up. But you’ve always thrived off that type of competition. So, currently in the most comfortable position of your career, how competitive are you?

Jay-Z: Not really that competitive, because the competition isn’t based on real competition. I mean, Game, I’m his f**kin idol. If you ask him and he’s being truthfully honest with you…it’s just based off his insecurities and, for the most part, pretension. That type of competition doesn’t do anything for me. It’s almost like someone trying to set you up, and everyone knows they’re to set you up, and everybody. It’s just dumb. It’s not in the spirit of competition, because he’s not competition for me. He’s not. Not then, not ever—he’d have to improve considerably. Competition for me competition is Nas, Eminem. Like Jim Jones? That’s ridiculous to me. So how do I respond to that? I can’t win. If I win, then they’ll be like, “See. Now chill. You’re a f**kin’ bully.” And if manages to throw a haymaker from the West Coast, then it’s like “Oooooh.” It’s not even fun. Like, before I did it, because I would diss anybody. Now who has time to do this s**teveryday? But before, when I was running after the little fat n***a from Ma$e’s camp, I was doing anybody. Anybody said anything. If I thought you said something. When I was running in the streets, I wanted all that type of activity. Nobody wanted nothing. Now everybody’s a tough guy.

Can it be true? 2 of the greatest MC's to ever touch the mic may be touring together???

Sources are saying that a Jay-Z and Eminem tour is definitely a go & will kick off sometime next month in LA and the last show will be towards the end of the year in NYC!

Makes a lot of sense since the two hip-hop heavyweights worked together on the DJ Hero game.

Opening acts will consist of Roc Nation's own J. Cole, Wale, Chrisette Michele and other special guests.

Sounds like a moneymaker.

DJ AM UPDATES

New details have emerged from DJ AM's investigation over his death.

Friends told authorities that the day before his death, AM announced he would be going to rehab since he had relapsed and was heavily using drugs!

Oh no!!

His West Coast manager and recovery sponsor reportedly flew to NYC to see him to discuss his crazy behavior in the previous weeks. When they arrived at his apartment, AM only let his sponsor inside.

When inside, sources say that AM lit up a crack pipe and popped pills right in front of him!!!

From that point, he promised his manager and sponsor that after his gig in Las Vegas last Friday, he would check himself into a rehab in California.

Wow. That show on MTV he was doin definitely aided his weakness. . .

DJ AM is expected to be buried in California later this week.

Crack, cocaine, heroin kills!!!! Stay away!!!!

On a side note, AM was a huge sneaker head and had a monstrous room dedicated to his Air Forces, SB's and Jordans! I mean look at the above pic, can I get pair?!

ANSWER THE CALL WITH JAY-Z

Jiggaman and his wifey Beyonce were on hand for the Blueprint 3 September 11th benefit concert for family and friends affected by the lost lives of our city's finest police and firefighting heroes at Madison Square Garden.

Press from all around the world was there, including NYC's Governor, important officials, Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group Kevin Liles and of course Jay-Z. Skip towards the last 3 minutes of the video to listen to Hov speak:

I hear because of all the leaked music recently, Jay is planning to add extra bonus tracks for the 9/11 release of BP3 and for a re-release slated for Christmas.

Get your earplugs ready!

R.I.P DJ AM

UPDATE: ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE

Upon being away, I heard the devastating news of one of my all time favorite DJ's DJ AM passing away in his NYC apartment on Friday.

AM, 36 who's real name is Adam Goldstein narrowly escaped a fatal plane crash with drummer Travis Barker last year but suffered severe 2nd degrees burns & was taking prescriptions medicines for it up until the day he died.

According to reports, DJ AM on the day he passed away, sent a text message to two friends about a Las Vegas gig he had that day at Rain Nightclub at the Palms.

Sixteen hours later, his friends called 911 because the deejay could not be reached before his scheduled flight since he was he was not answering his cell phone. Then according to a police source, the NYPD broke down the door to his SoHo apartment to find him dead, laying flat on his bed with a pair of sweatpants on and no shirt. 7 bottles of prescription pills including Xanax were found on his counter alongside a crack pipe!

Police are waiting on the toxicology reports, which can take weeks to know once and for all how he died.

Reports are also saying that AM had been battling depression lately and thought his depression was a result of trying to stop taking pain medication since his tragic plane accident.

However friends & family are all saying the drug stories are untrue & how DJ AM had been sober for 8-9 years since his crack addiction and had been shooting a show for MTV called Gone Too Far about young teenagers battling drug addictions and trying to get help!

But the eeriest part of this whole tragedy was the foreshadowing of his own death. AM had written a line from a Grandmaster Flash song on his Twitter before coming to NY, "
New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems."

So so so sad. . . .

Go YouTube his other magical mashups and incredible cuts and blends. You better. It's worth it!!!

R.I.P DJ AM.

UPDATE:

Law enforcement sources directly connected with the death of DJ AM tell us that his death was the result of…… an accidental overdose and not a suicide — and there is a tragic, ironic twist of fate:

Our sources say DJ AM, a recovering addict, developed a dependency to Xanax and other benzodiazepines (a group of drugs used to treat anxiety) as a direct result of the plane crash he was in almost a year ago. We’re told AM (aka Adam Goldstein) developed a tremendous anxiety over flying — something he had to do frequently for his job. We’re told doctors began prescribing Xanax and other anti-anxiety medications to relieve his fear, but the benzos triggered a relapse into addiction. We’re told benzos are particularly dicey for recovering addicts.

Our sources say DJ AM’s relapse was “recent” — he was not abusing for a prolonged period of time before his death. We’re also told the OD had “absolutely nothing to do with his recent breakup.” Our sources say the evidence strongly indicates cause of death will be a o combination of crack cocaine and benzos.

JADAKISS APARTMENT GETS RAIDED

Police have raided an apartment leased to Jadakiss in Yonkers, NY.

Authorities seized 5 grams of heroin, 6.5 pounds of marijuana and $40,000 cash!

The police got a search warrant for the apartment after an incident on Friday where they saw an individual in a car that smelled like marijuana. They arrested 25-year-old Alberto Lajara and charged him with fifth degree criminal possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct.

A passenger, Gabriel R. Henriquez, 39, attempted to run and was subsequently charged with felonious second-degree criminal possession of marijuana and second-degree assault as well as second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a misdemeanor.

According to sources, Jadakiss was not at the home at the time of the raid and he is not wanted by police.

See what happens when you help people out. Tsk tsk.

JAY-Z SEPT. 11 CONCERT & ANOTHER LEAKED RECORD

To all the Hovian fans out there, it's already known that Jay-Z was planning to throw a benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in NYC on the day of his album release, September 11th.

New details have surfaced about the one night extravaganza & it's looking like it'll be an event everyone wants to see!

The concert is to help raise money for the New York Police and Fire Widows’ and Children’s Benefit Fund who has distributed over $114 million to the families of police and firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

"This charity and concert encompass the true spirit of New York City," Jay-Z told AllHipHop in a statement. "We are asking everyone to 'answer the call' and support and honor the families of those that lost their lives in the line of duty. There was true camaraderie and resiliency that this city showed the world in 2001, and we continue that today by taking care of our own."

The concert will air live via Fuse Presents: Jay-Z Live from Madison Square Garden: Answer The Call on September 11 at 9:00 PM.

And this here is another leaked track produced by Timbaland again, off of Jiggaman's anticipated Blueprint 3 album called Reminder. Take a listen:

My favorite track I've heard by far!!!!!

Sounds like authentic Jay-Z if you ask me! And to the ones who'll be hating on his lyrics, he's not a young teenager anymore so what he has to say at the age of nearly 40, will be tremendously different from when he was 18.

Thank you, come again.

7 BODIES PULLED FROM HUDSON PLANE CRASH

A helicopter and a private plane crashed into one another a midst the NYC sky Saturday. No one is believed to have survived.

Here's the story from Yahoo News:

Divers pulled a helicopter and four more bodies out of the murky Hudson River on Sunday in their search for victims, wreckage and explanations from a midair collision of a sightseeing helicopter and a small plane that killed nine people.

The dead from Saturday's crash include three fathers and their three teenage sons. The private plane carried a family from Pennsylvania, and the helicopter held five Italian tourists celebrating a couple's 25th wedding anniversary.

The plane approached the helicopter, which had just taken off for a 12-minute tour, from behind and clipped it with a wing, witnesses said. Both aircraft split apart and fell into the river.

Searchers fought swift currents, dealt with visibility as low as one foot, and dodged debris dumped along the river bottom as they brought four more bodies on to boats. One was found in the fuselage of the helicopter, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones said. Two bodies remained missing.

The searches went on as a steady stream of tour boats floated down the Hudson. Restrictions put in place after the crash kept sightseeing helicopter tours grounded Sunday.

Divers suspended their search at about 6 p.m. Sunday and it will resume Monday morning, National Transportation Safety Board spokesman Keith Holloway said.

So tragic. Another plane crash. . more lives lost. . . like I said before it's the Summer of Death.

KANYE WEST PERFORMS NEW SONG DANCE NINJA DANCE

Kanye West performed this song at the Casio G-Shock event at Cipriani's in NYC yesterday. The words he's spitting, scratch that, I mean singing, are directed towards his fame, fortune and the media aka papparrazi:

Seems more like spoken word poetry then a song if you ask me.

IS A MASE A BAD BOY AGAIN?

Oh yes. The days of the shiny suits, ridiculous dancing, fish eyed lens music videos.

That's how we all remember Mase from the 90's. Forget what he did with G-Unit. I don't even remember what he did with them to tell you the truth & never understood 50's decisions to recycle old rappers.

Anyway, history might repeat itself because sources are saying Mase will officially be back in the rap game & has resigned with the label who took him to the top, Diddy & Bad Boy Records:

He was quick to throw the stunnas on when he found out it was TMZ LOL.

This does leave me to wonder though, since he is a Pastor now, what will his album sound like? Definitely not like any of the old music he use to do.

Only time will tell.

BIG PUN'S WIFE AND KIDS LIVE IN A SHELTER

Big Pun's wife Liza Rios has been through a heck of a lot from the time the Bronx rapper was here to the present date. She's pulled herself through Pun's domestic abuse, violence & so much more. But the most surprising fact she's just recently opened up about is that she and her 3 children are currently living in a shelter in NYC:

That really really sucks. . . However people are wondering, is it Pun's fault she's currently in this state or is it hers for not gettin a job & gettin it together.

Either case, I'm sure that documentary that's coming out next month about the Punisher will include all of this.

CHRIS BREEZY & RIHANNA GETS IT POPPIN AGAIN???

One of the penalties the court ordered Chris Brown to do in his hearing for battery was to stay at least 50 yards away from Rihanna & at least 10 yards away if they're both attending the same industry event.

Rihanna was overheard in the courtroom that day saying the restraining order was very unnecessary.

Well the pop star stayed true to her words!

According to The New York Post, paparazzi were able to get hold of some vital information regarding the 2!

They claim that both Rihanna & Brown checked into seperate rooms at the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Midtown in NYC on Friday where they spent the weekend together.

People at the hotel snitched on the former couple to the paps, saying that they spent a full two days together at the hotel. And not only that, Rihanna & Brown also used decoys and vehicles to go out in the city together in hopes of throwing off the paparazzi and any media from finding out that the two have been chillin.

My lawd. If there are any pictures of this, what is gonna happen to them in court?! I mean, they violated the law & on top of that I hope they re hatched the issues they've had.

Rihanna's gonna get a lot of hate for hangin with Chris again; whether it be as friends or lovers.

I say, she knows what she's doin. Both of them do.

QUEEN OF THE NIGHT

Whitney Houston's listening party went down at the Lincoln Center Jazz Center last night.

Music executives, celebrities like Martha Stewart, Gayle King, Steve Harvey, Monica, R. Kelly, AJ, Vivica Fox, media outlets and urban radio Program Directors from all over the country were invited to take part in hearing her new album I Look To You slated for release in September.

Alicia Keys was also there alongside her man Swizz Beats and word has it that the two were acting very affectionate with one another, videotaping themselves having fun and dancing to the song they produced for Whitney on her album called Million Dollar Bill. I guess they're ready to go public now.

The crowd was pleasantly surprised to find out that R.Kelly produced 2 tracks on the album, which explains why he was there in the first place.

But the memorable part of the whole album was when Whitney's old song A Song For You was played. She decided to put the song on the comeback album and the crowd went crazy! Sources are saying that everyone was cheering, crying, feeling very emotional about the song and that everyone agreed Ms. Whitney Houston was back!

A true powerhouse voice!
