VH1 DIVAS HIGHLIGHTS

I may be one of the few who actually tuned in for VH1's Divas Live Concert last night held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Let's face it, the Divas concerts have lost their edge for a while now.

Nonetheless, ya girl JB tuned in! The Divas concert consisted of great voices, great collabos, a spoof of Ellen & Paula Abdul even performed (more like lip synched) but her dance moves are still there! Watch the full show:

The crowd seemed unenergetic until Miley Cyrus came out. Ummmmm right. . . Why is she even in the show?! A diva? Really? I thought a diva were artists like Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin. I understand VH1 have pretty much used up all the true legends for their past shows but cmon!

Personally, I could've lived without Kelly Clarkson & Miley Cyrus.

It's okay. Maybe next year VH1.

TUPAC'S LOST INTERVIEW

The newly revamped Vibe.com just released a lost interview of the late, great Tupac Shakur & the guy talks about how he's the one that put the East Coast on the map, beef with Biggie & the Wu Tang Clan:

Money is evil . . . .Real shit.

SNEAK PEAK AT OPRAH'S INTERVIEW WITH JAY-Z

Oprah's camp posted a snippet of what to expect in the October issue of The O Magazine where she went to visit Marcy Projects with Jay-Z:

At 13 he was selling crack. By 30 he was a hip-hop legend-having gone, in his words, "from grams to Grammys." Now Jay-Z charts his escape from the hard-knock life, describes the reunion that healed the wounds of his childhood- and even reveals the standing Sunday date he has with what's her name.

The complete interview will be available in the October 2009 issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, on newsstands September 15th. Get a first look here.

Oprah: So tell me how you got into the drug dealing.

Jay-Z: It was natural.…

Oprah: Because drug dealers were your role models. There wasn’t a teacher or a lawyer or a nurse or a doctor or an accountant in the neighborhood?

Jay-Z: Well, we were living in Marcy by then, so, no. And if anyone did become something like that, they moved out. They never came back to share the wisdom of how they made it. If anyone made it, you never knew it. That’s why I’ve always said that if I became successful, I’d come back here, grab somebody, and show him how it can be done.

Oprah: So by the time you were 13, this was a way of life. Did the lifestyle frighten you?

Jay-Z: No. It was normal. And at some point, you become addicted to the feeling. The uncertainty and adrenaline and danger of that lifestyle.

Oprah: This is where we differ. This is where we differ. Because I’d be very scared! Weren’t you shot at three times—within six feet—and you lived to talk about it?

Jay-Z: That was divine intervention. Divine intervention, and nobody knowing how to shoot.

Oprah: What happened in each situation?

Jay-Z: It was one situation, three shots.

Oprah: So he was a bad shot.

Jay-Z: Well, no one really practices shooting a TEC-9 machine gun, right? And when you’re a kid, with little bony arms—no wonder nobody could aim.

Oprah: Many of the little boys who grew up in the Marcy projects are either in jail or dead. Why do you think you got to grow up and buy your mom a house?

Jay-Z: There’s the gift, there’s the spirit, and there’s the work—all three have to come together. If one of those things is off, it can stop you from becoming who you were meant to be.

Oprah: When I met you a few years ago, we discussed our disagreement over the use of the N word and misogynist lyrics in rap music. Do you believe that using the N word is necessary?

Jay-Z: Nothing is necessary. It’s just become part of the way we communicate. My generation hasn’t had the same experience with that word that generations of people before us had. We weren’t so close to the pain. So in our way, we disarmed the word. We took the fire pin out of the grenade.

Jay talking about his wedding when you read the rest…

Oprah: Do you and BeyoncĂ© have a pact that you just won’t talk about each other?

Jay-Z: Yeah. When you’re a public person, you have to keep some things to yourself, or else people will just—

Oprah: Eat it up. I know. But can I ask how in the world you kept your wedding a secret?

Jay-Z: Late planning!

Oprah: How many people knew?

Jay-Z: Very few. The sad part is that we offended some. But people who love you understand. Because at the end of the day, it’s your day.

Oprah: So here we are, talking on a Sunday afternoon. If you weren’t sitting here with me, what would you be doing?

Jay-Z: I’m gonna get killed for this, but I’ll tell you anyway. There’s a great pizza spot we go to every Sunday. It’s our tradition. It’s a small place in Brooklyn, you can bring your own wine, and there are candles there. It’s a nice date.

A tech-9 in the hood. What else is new.

JAY-Z DEDICATES VERSE TO BILL O'REILLY & RUSH LIMBAUGH

It's not a surprise to anyone that Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh has a hatred for rappers and black people.

He's expressed his dislike for rappers like Ludacris, Nelly and even Jay-Z!

So what did Jay do with his inner frustrations with the hard headed Republican? This:

You know for someone who doesn't care for Hov, he does make it a point for him to be a topic huh?

R.I.P AALIYAH

Aaliyah Dana Haughton died on this day 8 years ago & it's bringing tears to my eyes thinking about it because I could remember vividly where I was when I found out about the plane crash, how hurt and sad I was and how I felt like we truly lost an angel!

My sisters and I were ginormous fans of hers growing up. We knew the lyrics to every song she's ever made, had her posters plastered on our walls and every time a new video from her classic One In a Million album debuted, we'd make sure to learn the dance moves!

She was truly a gorgeous, gentle soul, with a kind heart, a love for music & has a swagger like no other R&B chick in the game, past or present, has yet to emulate. (Sorry Ciara *ahem)

Let's all remember Aaliyah for the legacy she left behind from the start of her career at the tender age of 14. Here's the full E True Hollywood Story of her. If you don't know much about Aaliyah, I suggest you watch the whole interview and go YouTube all her classic songs.

Btw, she was born in Brooklyn. You know I had to throw that in there:

THE ILL NA NA GETS A SHOW

Rumors are swirling that Brooklyn rapper, who I think will destroy Lil Kim in a battle, has started production on her own reality tv show.

Go figure!

Anyone
can get a reality show nowadays so why not Foxy?! I'd enjoy watching one of my favorite females rappers growing up.

She's so gritty. So hood. So Brooklyn. I loves it!

E.S.P JEN: MALIGNAGGI ROBBED OF WIN

Anyone who's a boxing fan watched the Diaz vs. Malignaggi fight Saturday night on HBO. The event was held in Houston, Texas for Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Productions & many are outraged over the final decision in which Paulie Malignaggi lost the fight which he clearly won!

Scorecards for the fight read a shocking 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113 in favor of Juan Diaz, who also happens to be a Houston native! Hmm I smell somethin funky!

Funny thing is, those scores are nowhere close to how the fight went!! Malignaggi arguably pummeled Diaz in the last 4 rounds and throughout the match as well with the many jabs he threw & landed!

Malignaggi, a Brooklyn native was in disbelief & had some words for the judging of the match:

And the Magic Man and his team continued their arguements post fight:

What??? A boxing match rigged??? Who would've thunk it! *sarcasm

MICHAEL JACKSON UPDATES

That sneaky, coneiving doctor of Michael Jackson's Dr. Conrad Murray has finally spoken up about the allegations against him in a video he made:

Am I the only one blown away by him having an accent?? Does he even have his green card or a legal liscense to be a doc here in the states?? Just playing!

Spike Lee is doing the right thing for Mike in Brooklyn on what would've been MJ's 51st birthday on August 29th. The producer of Mike's They Don't Really Care About Us video will be hosting a celebration at Fort Greene Park from 12pPM-5PM.

Spike says that he and Michael come from the same era & can remember wanting to perfect his afro so it could be like MJ’s.

So what else is going on, on MJ's bday??? His burial!

MJ will finally be buried at the Forest Lawn Cemetery says Joe Jackson. Obviously he had to tell the media when & where.

Serious exploitation homie.

God bless you Mike.

OPRAH TALKS JAY-Z & SALT-N-PEPA ARE BACK

Wendy Williams ended her long run on WBLS with her syndicated radio show The Wendy Williams Experience which can now be seen on FOX.

So who's taking over the coveted spot???

Rumor has it that Salt & Pepa will be taking over Wendy's slot as new radio hosts on a brand spankin' new show!

Will you listen??? Btw, Pep looks mega different with that tweaked nose. More soft now & less gully!

Movin on. . . .

Oprah visited Marcy Projects with Jay-Z the other day for an upcoming show. However, sources are saying now that the visit was not for The Oprah Winfrey Show but rather for The O Magazine. I hope she changes her mind!

Anyway, Oprah talked with her long time friend Gayle King on Gayle's radio show & had some wonderful things to say about our man Hov, including his great body odor:

Boy does somebody have a crush!

OPRAH IN BROOKLYN

No this isn't a scene for an upcoming movie or anything but instead bits & parts that are going to be used for The Oprah Winfrey show!

Oprah's ban on rappers for her talk show was put on hold for none other than Jay-Z.

Oprah went to the Marcy PJ's in Brooklyn to visit & film Jay-Z at his old stomping grounds. The days when sittin on the stoop of the building, hustlin' crack, drinkin 40's and smokin Lz while gun battling with the enemy next door was a normal day for the Brooklyn don.

However those were the old days & Hov has since turned up a new leaf. One of the highlights Oprah will be showcasing on the show are Jay's contributions back to his hood.

Rihanna and wifey Beyonce were said to be there too.

I'd like to see Oprah have 50 Cent on the show one day. Just a thought!

THEY RUNNIN THIS TOWN

Jay-Z, Kanye West & Rihanna were spotted filming the video in Brooklyn and Queens for Run This Town & it looks like it's goin to be a spectacle!

Ninja cult style & I'm diggin it!

JAY-Z PAYS TRIBUTE TO MCA AT ALL POINTS WEST

The great Hova himself took the Beastie Boys' place as the headliner for the All Points West Festival when MCA broke the news to everyone he had cancer and would have to cancel all performances until he gets treatments for the disease.

So Jay-Z did a wonderful gesture when he opened the show this past weekend:

Spread love it's the Brooklyn way.

JAY'Z NEW BOOK TO BE TITLED "DECODED"

I've been hearing for a while that Jay-Z's working on a book but couldn't find any specific details about it.

No need to look anymore because Hov's finally spoken up about his new memoir entitled Decoded.

In the book, he'll finally be opening up about his marriage to Beyonce and how it came to be, old relationships, his life growing up in Marcy Projects while slangin crack as a living and he'll divulge his rhyming secrets!

Genius marketing. I'm sure the book will be released in & around the same time Blueprint 3 drops.

JAY-Z INTERVIEW WITH DJ SEMTEX

Hov is still in London doing his promotions & recently chatted it up with DJ Semtex about life, his career, his beef & whether a comeback song to The Game's I'm So Wavy diss track can happen?? Check it out:

Jigga what? Jigga who? Recognize your J to the Z!

VH1 DIVAS LIVE 2009

Here's a show on VH1 that doesn't suck, the networks Divas Live is back!

The concert this year will be held at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (I've seen many plays there growing up & my JHS graduation was held there. )

Who will they be honoring this year?? You may scratch your heads while reading this.

Leona Lewis, Kelly Clarkson, Adele & Miley Cyrus?!!!

How'd it go from having Whitney Houston & Aretha Franklin at one point to this lousy cast??

The show will air live on Thursday, September 17th on VH1.

That's the first Divas Live concert ever & the best one by far! I recorded it on VHS when it aired haha. Needless to say, they've downgraded incredibly throughout the years. From the very first show with true divas to the current lineup.

Bleh.

THE WIRE COMES TO LIFE FOR MARLO

Jamie Hector who played druglord Marlo Stanfield on the hit show The Wire saw his character's life turn into reality in Brooklyn yesterday!

And more appropriately, the incident occurred at his wife's baby shower!

At a baby shower?!?!!

According to the NY Daily News a made-for-tv gun battle erupted outside a Brooklyn baby shower for the wife of a star of the HBO crime series “The Wire” yesterday, killing one teen and wounding two men, cops said.

Gunmen unloaded nearly 50 bullets outside the party near Avenue B and the 90's & then tried to finish off one of the wounded men outside a hospital!

“What a gun battle,” a police source told the NY Daily News. “They have been watching too much TV.”

DamnNnnnnNnnn! The shooters tried to merk the guy as he was being carried into the hospital?!??!? I don't think even Marlo could've handled this situation.

Man, only in the Brookna.

JAE MILLZ GETS JACKED

Jae Millz, who's now signed to Young Money Records with Weezy, were one of the attendees at the Drake Best I Ever Had music video shoot and apparently he got robbed!

There were reportedly a lot of artists from Brooklyn unaccounted for at the shoot in Bishop Ford High School. While everyone, including extras and all were crowding up in the gym, the group of people started to disapate, leaving Jae Millz silent and missing some of his chains.

What can I say, that's Brooklyn for you.
